Shaver Lake, CA - Shaver Lake and the surrounding area is an unappreciated and undocumented mountain biking mecca. Traveling up from Fresno, CA on Highway 168 you will arrive in a wonderful place called Shaver Lake. There are a host of rides ranging from beginner to expert that can please all types of riders. If you are starting from Shaver Lake, you can access the rides from town and tap into many of the horse trails around the lake. During the summer months the trails close to the lake are a bit dusty from the hoof traffic but as you hit the outer reaches where there is less traffic it is outstanding riding. The rides documented here include:

Shaver Lake: A blast. Rides range from fire roads to sindle tracks that circle the lake. There are so many options you can get lost for hours trying to figure out left from right but you will always end up on one of the perimeter roads. Elevation range: 1000 foot elevation range between 5000 feet to 6000 feet.

Sierra Summit: From the Sierra Summit Ski Resort there are a host of rides that include fire roads, single tracks and some bush whacking that make up some of the best riding ever. The full time staff of Sierra Summit (thank you) maintain the trails in the off season create one of the better single tracks available (locally known as the E-Trail). To find it you are best served by asking one of the locals but once you do, you may find yourself doing laps on this short 3 mile section of single track through the pines and granite.

NOTE: the map underlying map is based on the OLD hwy168 ... GPS readings are based on the NEW hwy168.
